With a couple weeks of #skiseason left, we are already nostalgic about winter! It was filled with thrills and chills, ups and downs, lots of grey areas! And what can we say - we just go against the grain 🦄

We can’t think of a better way to capture it than the emotional medium of black and white, taking a cue from landscape photographer and environmentalist #AnselAdams. Adams made many visits to #NewMexico to photograph natural and cultural wonders, like @taos’s own San Francisco de Asis church! He chose the black and white aesthetic to emphasize form and texture to evoke mood and emotion, and preferred it over color photography.

Hit us with your best shot! You must follow @taosskivalley to be eligible to enter. Here’s how it works and the payoff!

📷 Entry is open to anyone in the US from Friday 3.21 to Friday, 3.28. Photos should be submitted as a JPEG or PNG file to our DM.
📷 Any image taken during THIS season (2024-25) in #TaosSkiValley edited in black and white is eligible. You still have time this week to get out and shoot!
📷 Do what moves you! Subjects can range from people to sport, wildlife to landscape, Village to mountain. We want to see it all!
📷 Images can be submitted in any aspect ratio or orientation. They can be taken with a smart phone or camera — both will be given equal consideration. We recommend a modest high resolution for best results.
🏆 We will choose a winner to be announced Monday, 3.31 with a runner up and 3rd place.🥇will receive a large format print in the framing of their choice (up to $300), mailed direct! All will be featured with credit here on IG and FB as part of end of season coverage.

Known for his B&W images of the American West, Adams was a life-long advocate of conservation, even contracted by @usinterior. His work helped expand @nationalparkservice, for which he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

PSA - Winter Hiking: When in Doubt, Double 🆙

POV: You want to hike now but it can be dicey in late winter. Don’t roll the 🎲! Stay on your feet and go the distance with this sample pack list next time you head for the hills:

Micro Spikes - Where were you all my life? No more slipping bc you’ll quickly fall for the confident, grippy hold a set provides on slick, icy surfaces, even rocks! If snowpack is light and re-freezing is on the regular, you’re gonna want to ditch the #snowshoes and hike in your boots while trails are still #winterwonderland white — and shoulder season melt can extend through May, even June/July at altitude on heavy snowfall years. During ski season we keep a pair of these in our car. We love @kahtoola, available in a few colors and spike types.

Camelback-style pack - Hauling water doesn’t have to be a hassle. Opt for hands-free with a bladder on your back. Scoop some electrolyte powder inside before you head out. We like the all natural sour patch kids like pinch of @skratchlabs. You may feel less sweaty here in dry altitude but you’re losing water when you’re active just the same. Layers - Redundancy! The mantra rings true for most things in life, especially mountain life! Always be prepared, as weather can change quickly up here. We’ve shouted this to the peaks during summer monsoons, yet a #williamslake hike this weekend produced another jeans-wearing, outwerwear-less outlier swaggering up in sneakers. Ya, it gets warm, but cloud cover gets chilly pretty fast. Stuff a shell in your bag or synch it around your waist when your heart rate is up. Point is, most of the time you’re prepping for the exception, but worst case scenarios can and will sneak up, they always do. And you don’t know nada until you’ve indulged in a pair of dry socks on one of those days!

Women-owned businesses continue to fuel the economy, representing 39.1% of all businesses – over 14 million – employing 12.2 million workers, and generating $2.7 trillion in revenue according to a 2024 study from the financial industry using census bureau data. Hard times, no prob. Whether it was during COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 or supply chain disruptions throughout the pandemic, women business owners are continuing to drive economic growth across multiple critical sectors.

From 2019 to 2023, women-owned businesses’ growth rate outpaced the rate of men’s 94.3% for number of firms, 252.8% for employment, and 82.0% for revenue. During the pandemic, women-owned businesses added 1.4 million jobs and $579.6 billion in revenue to the economy.
