Our Location

We are located an easy drive from the Town of Taos, which sits at the base of the mountains. It takes about 30 minutes to drive from Taos Plaza to the Ski Valley, passing through historic villages and mountain canyons. The area’s early ski pioneers, residents, and employees blended their love of skiing with the local Native American and Spanish cultures to craft a mountain retreat out of an old mining town. Over the years, Taos has become world-renowned for steep runs of powdery, dry snow in the winter and stunning forest surroundings in the spring and summer.

With unprecedented access courtesy of JSX, visitors from Texas and California can fly directly to the Taos airport, instead of flying into Santa Fe or Albuquerque. Or fly with Contour direct to Denver International.

Here’s the run-down:

🗓️ Fri, Oct 31 – Sun, Nov 2
FRI | 3–6 PM – Drop off gear, grab sales tags ($2 each or 5 for $2 on smaller items). 20% of sales benefit TWST!
SAT | 10 AM–7 PM – Gear drop-off continues 10–12 PM, then hunt the slopes of deals with DJ beats, snacks, and a cash bar. Browse from local shops and garages — no entry fee, $20 suggested donation if you find “the one.”
SUN | 11 AM–4 PM – Family fun, silent auction, last-chance finds. Gear pickup 4:30–6 PM. ⛑️ Reminders: No used helmets or skis with non-indemnified bindings. All sales final. 10–20% of proceeds support TWST, a 501(c)(3) youth snowsports team.

Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) appearing in @Taos’s NW dark sky last night after sunset beside the @earthship Meditation Pyramid, making its descent to the horizon beside the Milky Way’s Galactic Center. 🔺☄️💚 DYK? Comets sometimes glow green because sunlight excites gases like diatomic carbon (C₂) and cyanogen (CN) in their coma. When those molecules calm down, they release green light — giving the comet its ghostly emerald hue. The tail usually stays pale, since those fragile gases burn off fast in sunlight! Nice air glow on her last night! As a point of comparison, Lemmon’s nucleus measures about 2.2 km across—significantly smaller compared to last October’s C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) with its 10–20 km core. Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) is a long-period traveler, returning to our skies roughly once every 1,350 years. Yesterday it made its closest approach to Earth—about 90 million kilometers away—There are a few more nights of possible naked-eye viewing if the skies stay clear. Texture/sound: Thick, fluttering leaves that rustle deeply in the wind
Growth: Among the fastest-growing North American hardwoods
Water seekers: Deep roots (30+ ft) tap into groundwater, marking old streambeds
Cultural note: Indigenous peoples used buds for salves and teas; pioneers called it “the tree of life”

Good to the last lap! 🚴‍♀️🦄🪨 Sunday was a free-wheeling funday at Ride the Rift 2025! Our favorite comp kiddos @taos_composite led the way for @fitaos’s annual community ride and fundraiser — when Uni-Cornelius wasn’t popping wheelies, of course! A huge thank you to first-timers, families, and our stalwart community riders tearing up the Rift Valley Taos Overlook trails. And to every participant, volunteer, and sponsor who made the day unforgettable — you keep the wheels turning for local outdoor youth programs! 📊 By the Numbers:
• 121 riders, ages 2–81
• 42 juniors (half were girls!)
• 44 volunteers (23 also rode!)
• Over 1,600 total miles ridden

Go for the gold 💛🥇🏆👑🌟🍁🏵️🍂🚵‍♀️ Made your annual aspen pilgrimage yet? South Boundary Trail #164 is one of our favorite seasonal rites of passage — a golden corridor through shimmering groves dropping gold all around, conifers catching their fall, and alpine ridges made for single track glory. Riders call it “a classic little bit of everything,” and it’s consistently top-ranked in New Mexico (via @mtb_project!) It’s def a banger in the best and worst of ways — but you’ve got choices! 🤠 FR-76 Drop: Ride the full ~20-mile IMBA Epic with ~4,500 ft of descent.
😵‍💫 Garcia Park Drop: Skip ~7 miles, keep the scenic flow, and still score the descent. Forest Road 437 is notoriously rough but totally passable yesterday with slow vigilance on on the few rutted areas! FWD/AWD recommended.
🚙 DIY Shuttle: Run two vehicles (El Nogal + FR-76 or Garcia Park) or mix in two-tracks for a self-served loop.
🦵Out and back from Garcia will get the legs grinding — with all the leaf littler finding your way back can get spicy with Forest road intersections so stay landmark vigilant — GPS or map apps help! 🛠️ Trail Truths & Must-Knows:
• No e-bikes — Carson NF prohibits them on non-motorized trails.
• No water on route — pack plenty.
• Snow-bound in winter; usually cleared by mid-June.
• The final El Nogal section is steep, loose, and technical — respect it.
• Average ride time from FR-76: 3–5 hrs depending on pace and stops. Bring some grit and follow the yellow brick road - we got a little afternoon shower yesterday so it’s probably riding nice and grippy this weekend.
