Kit Carson Electric Cooperative • 100% Daytime Solar!
Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) is a member-owned utility that has served Taos, Colfax, and Rio Arriba counties in northern New Mexico since 1944. With over 29,000 members, KCEC provides electricity, internet, and propane services, supporting approximately 139 families through employment.
In the 1990s, KCEC expanded beyond electricity, introducing internet services and later building over 2,900 miles of fiber-optic lines with assistance from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The cooperative has also been a leader in renewable energy, aiming to achieve 100% daytime solar energy by 2022. This initiative included installing solar arrays at various community locations and partnering with Guzman Energy to develop a solar deployment plan within its service territory.
KCEC’s commitment to renewable energy and community development makes it a model for rural electric cooperatives seeking to implement resilient and sustainable energy solutions.
