Taos Chamber Music Group Spring Festival

Taos Chamber Music Group presents the Third Annual appearance of alumni from the prestigious Taos School of Music Chamber Music Festival. For this concert four young alumni artists who are already making their way in the professional world will share their exceptional talent in this program. In preparation for their performances, they have been coached by Brentano String Quartet’s cellist and Taos School of Music faculty member, Nina Lee.

Jeremiah Blacklow, violin (2017), is a founding member of the Renaissance String Quartet. He is deeply committed to chamber music and community engagement and serves as Principal Second Violin of the Glimmerglass Opera Festival.

Jihyun Baik, violin (2024), is a dedicated chamber musician and teaching artist. She has performed at Aspen, Taos, and the Heifetz Institute, and serves on the faculty of Musart Music and the Harmony Program.

Natalie Clarke, viola (2025) is an active soloist, chamber musician, and advocate for new music. Natalie is deeply committed to musical outreach and regularly curates performances for community-based settings in New York.

Hannah Rubin, cello (2025), is an active chamber musician and collaborator based in New York City. She is deeply engaged in music outreach throughout the city.

Their program will feature two string quartets, Franz Joseph Haydn (G Major, Op. 33, Nol 5), one of the “Russian” quartets nicknamed, “How do you Do” and Felix Mendelssohn (A minor, Op. 13, No. 2). Haydn, known as “Papa Haydn”, created the four-movement string quartet structure. Mendelssohn’s string quartets were greatly influenced by Haydn, and this quartet was written as homage to Ludwig van Beethoven who had died earlier that year whose compositional techniques also shaped his writing.
