Hired Hands Reunion

September 25 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$16 – $20
Hired Hands Reunion

Hired Hands was a band based in Taos who was one of the most popular acoustic folk-Americana bands in the region from 1992 until around 2005. Hired Hands was a trio of multi-talented musicians who deliver an eclectic blend of country oriented music, from folk ballads to hot swing tunes, with some bluegrass, Cajun, two-steps, waltzes and R&B in between. They performed this wide ranging repertoire with a primarily acoustic instrumentation including two acoustic guitars, dobro, mandolin, fiddle, banjo and harmonica as well as electric bass, all backing up their strong solo and harmony vocals. They recorded 3 CDs for Howlin’ Dog Records.

Joining together for the reunion show will be founding members Billy Bond, Jr and Don Richmond, along with bassist Jim Bradley, who replaced the original bassist Steve Lindsay around 1995. Jim and Don are both well-known to area audiences as two of the members of their current band The Rifters.
Billy Bond, Jr. is one of the founding members of Hired Hands who returned to the band’s lineup in 2001. Billy covered many of the lead vocals for HH, playing both fingerstyle and flat-picked guitar, and is widely recognized as one of the premier dobro players in the region. Billy’s musical roots are deep in bluegrass, having been one of the original members of the Rocky Top Bluegrass Band in the late 1980’s and the bluegrass fusion band (with Don) the Rock Bottom Band. But just when you think you’ve got him pegged as a hardcore bluegrasser he’ll pull out his lap steel and play you some blistering blues-rock. Billy’s powerful and soulful voice plays a primary part in the commanding group vocals of Hired Hands. Whether in the almost sibling-like duo blends with Don or with Jim’s soaring high harmonies layered on top, the listener is touched, moved, and engaged.

Billy moved to Prescott, Arizona more than 20 years ago and has continued to play music in that very active music scene. Billy will open the show playing a set with his Prescott duo partner Kyle Phelan.

The show will start at 7:00 PM, and tickets are $16.00 advance, or $20.00 at the door.
