Join Southwest Nordic Center and ECTA for a trail maintenance day on the Wheeler Peak/Bull of the Woods Trail (#90). This work day is open to the public and anyone and everyone are warmly invited to join!
Details:
When: September 21st, 9 AM – 4 PM
Where: Meet at the Bull-of-the-Woods trailhead (36.597095, -105.450546)
What to Expect: A day filled with fun and trail maintenance on a classic Ski Valley trail. Work projects will consist of improving drainage and tread on the trail, and cutting back encroaching vegetation from the trail. We could be using tools like pick mattocks, McLeods, shovels, hand saws, and loppers.
We will be hiking about 3-4 miles roundtrip. The trail is uphill, steep in parts, has loose rock in parts, and has creek crossings. We’ll be working around 9,000′-9,500′ in elevation, it’s is highly advised to acclimate yourself to the elevation before attending.
What to Bring: Please wear long pants, sturdy hiking shoes/work boots, work gloves, and eye protection (sunglasses okay). Bring a day pack with plenty of food and water, sunscreen, layers, and rain gear.
We will be on the trail all day and not returning to the cars for lunch.
Please email [email protected] if you plan on coming.
ECTA will provide the hard hats and tools.
We hope to see you there!
