The Millicent Rogers Museum presents A Lightness of Being: Works on Paper by Mimi Chen Ting, an exhibition celebrating the work and legacy of longtime Taos artist Mimi Chen Ting.

Ting was a multidisciplinary artist whose practice moved across painting, printmaking, and performance. Born from a life shaped by movement, migration, and creative experimentation, her work explores themes of immigration, identity, expressive freedom, and belonging. In her works on paper, vibrant color and carefully balanced compositions create a sense of motion, emotion, and connection to place.

This selection highlights Ting’s distinctive visual language: abstracted spaces, flattened fields of color, and figural scenes where dancers’ bodies appear suspended, moving between gesture and stillness. Her images carry both lightness and depth, inviting viewers into a world shaped by rhythm, memory, and imagination.

A core member of the Taos artist community, Mimi Chen Ting made a lasting contribution to the cultural life of northern New Mexico. Her work returns to the galleries of the Millicent Rogers Museum after many years. In 2003, she received a National Endowment for the Arts grant for her performance How to Make a Book and Eat It Too, presented at the museum.

Ting passed away in 2022. Developed in collaboration with her family, Artist Estate Studio, and Louis Stern Fine Arts, A Lightness of Being honors her committed artistic practice and the enduring vitality of her work.

Opening reception June 20th from 5pm to 7pm.
