Good to the last lap! 🚴‍♀️🦄🪨 Sunday was a free-wheeling funday at Ride the Rift 2025! Our favorite comp kiddos @taos_composite led the way for @fitaos’s annual community ride and fundraiser — when Uni-Cornelius wasn’t popping wheelies, of course! A huge thank you to first-timers, families, and our stalwart community riders tearing up the Rift Valley Taos Overlook trails. And to every participant, volunteer, and sponsor who made the day unforgettable — you keep the wheels turning for local outdoor youth programs! 📊 By the Numbers:
• 121 riders, ages 2–81
• 42 juniors (half were girls!)
• 44 volunteers (23 also rode!)
• Over 1,600 total miles ridden
• Many scoops of @taoscow enjoyed till the last lick and lap !🍦 🏁 Fastest Lap Challenge:

South Boundary Trail #164 is one of our favorite seasonal rites of passage — a golden corridor through shimmering groves dropping gold all around, conifers catching their fall, and alpine ridges made for single track glory. Riders call it “a classic little bit of everything,” and it’s consistently top-ranked in New Mexico (via @mtb_project!) It’s def a banger in the best and worst of ways — but you’ve got choices! 🤠 FR-76 Drop: Ride the full ~20-mile IMBA Epic with ~4,500 ft of descent.
😵‍💫 Garcia Park Drop: Skip ~7 miles, keep the scenic flow, and still score the descent. Forest Road 437 is notoriously rough but totally passable yesterday with slow vigilance on on the few rutted areas! FWD/AWD recommended.
🚙 DIY Shuttle: Run two vehicles (El Nogal + FR-76 or Garcia Park) or mix in two-tracks for a self-served loop.
🦵Out and back from Garcia will get the legs grinding — with all the leaf littler finding your way back can get spicy with Forest road intersections so stay landmark vigilant — GPS or map apps help! 🛠️ Trail Truths & Must-Knows:
• No e-bikes — Carson NF prohibits them on non-motorized trails.
• No water on route — pack plenty.
• Snow-bound in winter; usually cleared by mid-June.
• The final El Nogal section is steep, loose, and technical — respect it.
• Average ride time from FR-76: 3–5 hrs depending on pace and stops. Bring some grit and follow the yellow brick road - we got a little afternoon shower yesterday so it’s probably riding nice and grippy this weekend. Keep an ear out for its high-pitched toots echoing through the forest. We spotted this sweetheart thanks to the watchful and gently careful eye of @raymondsadventures in the ponderosa/juniper/piñon forest of the northern #JemezMountains — but they can be heard and if you’re lucky spotted in the forest of the @taos foothills for a brief window in fall! 🦹🏻 Slither season: Young Gopher Snakes are still out and about soaking up warmth. Harmless but convincing with their rattlesnake mimicry—don’t be fooled, they’re rodent control specialists, not villains 💔 Eight-legged travelers: Will swerve for love! Yep, the male #tarantula is making his fall trek across Hwy 64 near #TresPiedras in search of a mate. A slow-motion love story on many little legs—watch your wheels and honk for the creepy little buggers! 📯 High-country herds: Bighorn Sheep ewes and their playful lambs are descending into lower elevations. Fall is a critical time for the Littles, so give them space and let them cross safely. 🍂 Together, they remind us that autumn is a season of transition—for wildlife as much as for us. No sour grapes! 🍇😎💚 Key takeaway from a #WineWednesday jaunt at @vivacwinery🍷You may not see things as clearly in their 2024 vintage… but we do!! Their new glass bottling goes green by design — tinted glass may shade the beauteous blush of rosé and sparkle of Grüner, but it protects wine’s character over time allowing less light in than the clear alternative. ☀️ Why Light Matters for Wine: Wine is surprisingly sensitive to light. UV rays and bright indoor light can trigger chemical reactions in the bottle, leading to loss of aroma and flavor, oxidization and even color changes – white wines can darken, rosés can lose their blush, and red wines may appear dull! 🔐 Storage tips to keep every sip perfect:
Dark is best – store wine in a dark cupboard, cellar, or cabinet.
Cool and steady – avoid heat or frequent temperature swings. Ideal: 50–60°F (10–15°C).
