Formed in 2007, and based in Red River, NM, the Hwy 38 Houndogs are a working roadhouse band playing around Northern New Mexico and West Texas. Spreading their brand of music to all who will listen. On piano, Jeff Fagan, of Red River, holds down the leads and melodic styling that has become a major part of their sound. Defining what it means to listen to the Houndogs, you will hear moves on the keys influenced by blues, jazz, rock, and country that keep you enthralled. On guitar and lead vocals, Michael Smith also hails from Red River. With a strong country influence, his powerful vocals demand your attention. Classic country soul blended with the rock feel of the band mixes to provide a sound that is unmatched and original in the honkytonk world. Of Cimarron, NM, Ry Taylor on bass and harmonies, adds a flare of folk rock and indie to the band. Keeping the low end together on the bass, his harmony vocals are the icing on the cake to round out the Houndog sound. The only way to describe the music of this trio has taken some time to define….”southwest Americana with a green chile twist” is where it has settled. The band hopes you enjoy the shows as much as they enjoy playing them. Three good buddies, from completely different sides of the musical train tracks came together years ago to see if a good time could be had. It has now taken on a life of its own, and a good time has become the foundation for the show and music of the Hwy 38 Houndogs….
