SUMMARY:Holiday Fiesta Community Day
DESCRIPTION:The Millicent Rogers Museum welcomes the community to the 28th Annual Holiday Fiesta Community Day\, a free seasonal celebration filled with art-making\, music\, and cultural traditions for visitors of all ages. Each year\, this beloved gathering brings families together to create\, explore\, and share in the warmth of the holiday season. \nThroughout the museum galleries\, guests will find a wide array of hands-on art activities inspired by local\, regional\, and multicultural traditions. Children and families are invited to make ornaments\, explore new crafts\, and add their own creative touch to the festivities. \nThis year’s crafting stations will include: \n\nWish Tree and other seasonal decorations\nWish Tree ornament making\nSanto coloring sheets\nKwanzaa craft\nHanukkah games\nCut paper Christmas cards\nBeaded bracelets\nCut paper Christmas wreaths with artist Tlacaelel Fuentes\nOjo de Dios\n\nIn addition to the creative activities\, the Holiday Fiesta will feature multiple performances throughout the day\, offering music\, dance\, and cultural traditions from the region. This year’s performers include: \n\nFlamenco music and dance by Nicolasa Chávez (singer and dancer) and Ronaldo Baca (guitarist)\, presenting an engaging program on villancicos flamencos\, the flamenco holiday songs of southern Spain\nSpanish Colonial Dancers\n\nThe flamenco presentation traces the rich history of villancicos flamencos\, which are sung from early December through Día de los Reyes on January 6. These traditional songs—passed down through generations of Gitanos in Andalucía—tell stories of José y María\, the anticipation of the Christ child\, village celebrations\, and the journeys of Los Reyes Magos. Chávez and Baca weave together history\, storytelling\, music\, and dance to show how these traditions resonate with New Mexico’s own holiday practices\, including Las Posadas\, Los Pastores\, and Los Reyes Magos. \nGuests can also enjoy free cocoa and cookies on the portal\, with additional festive treats available from local vendors.\nThe Holiday Fiesta Community Day is a joyful gathering where families can reconnect\, children discover new forms of creativity\, and the community celebrates the diverse traditions that make the season meaningful. All are invited to join the celebration on December 6 and experience a day filled with art\, music\, and togetherness at the Millicent Rogers Museum.
