SUMMARY:ECTA Adopt-A-Trail Work Day - Multi-Day Backpack on the Columbine Canyon Trail
DESCRIPTION:Join Wild Earth Llama Adventures and ECTA for a llama supported\, multi-day trail maintenance project on the Columbine Canyon trail! \nSpace is limited on this project\, and folks will be admitted on a first-come\, first-serve basis. Please RSVP by September 20th by emailing carel@enchantedcircletrails.org. \nDetails:\nWhen: Sunday\, September 27th – Tuesday\, September 29th\nWhere: Meet at the entrance to the Columbine Campground (36.681449\, -105.515699)\nWhat to Expect: Three days filled with fun\, trail maintenance\, and llamas! \nWe will be backpacking about 4 miles into our campsite and working on the upper 2 miles of the Columbine Canyon trail. Work will consist of basic trail maintenance like cutting out deadfall from the trail\, improving drainage\, widening the trail\, and cutting back encroaching vegetation. \nVolunteers will be responsible for providing their own gear and food for the duration of the trip. ECTA will reimburse participants up to $74 for meals and incidentals. \nWhat to Bring: For trail work\, please wear long pants\, sturdy hiking shoes/work boots\, work gloves\, and eye protection (sunglasses okay). \nBring a large pack that is able to carry three days’ worth of food\, layers (including rain gear)\, sleeping bag\, sleeping pad\, tent\, a way to properly store food (bear hang\, bear can\, etc.)\, water filter (we will be camping near a water source)\, a stove if desired\, eating utensils (bowl\, spork\, mug\, etc.)\, and anything else you may need. \nPlease bring wag bags or similar waste disposal bags to pack out human waste. The Columbine Canyon is a heavily used and sensitive environment\, and we’ll be utilizing Leave No Trace principles. \n*We will be in the backcountry for the duration of the project and not returning to the trailhead or cars* \nPlease email carel@enchantedcircletrails.org if you plan on coming. \nECTA will provide the hard hats and tools. \nWe hope to see you there!

Honor a remarkable railroad legacy while helping preserve Locomotive 315 for generations to come. \nThomas Artzberger served as the Durango Railroad Historical Society’s Chief Mechanical Engineer for Locomotive 315 and played an important role in the locomotive’s preservation\, maintenance\, and continued operation. \nOn September 27\, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango Railroad Historical Society will honor his memory with a full-day fundraising photo charter through the remote landscapes of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico. \nLocomotive 315 will lead a mixed train from Antonito to Osier Station and return. With only 60 tickets available\, guests will enjoy an intimate rail experience created for photographers\, railroad historians\, steam enthusiasts\, and supporters of historic preservation. \nThe event is scheduled during the traditional peak of the fall-color season\, offering the possibility of brilliant aspen foliage across the high country.
