SUMMARY:Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad: Geology Train
DESCRIPTION:A special Geology train for all Geologists – from the newly-interested to the practiced professional\, will depart to traverse spectacular geology along the Cumbres & Toltec track. Experiencing the incredible overviews of the Rio Grande Rift\, the eruptive evidence of the San Juan Volcanic Field\, the Precambrian core of the Tusas Mountains\, recent glacial deposits\, and snapshots of the Jurassic\, will not be enough. This special train will stop at many outcroppings and rail cuts along the right of way\, so passengers may mingle\, marvel\, and collect photographs. These unique experiences are only accessible on the train route. \nThe opportunities are priceless: \n\nJoin a cadre of distinguished Geologists for a truly extraordinary day on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad.\nThe railroad passes through one of the most unique\, varied geologic areas in the U.S. and it is the ONLY way to see all those sights.\nSee metamorphic rock as old as that at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.\nThe train will make a number of stops along the route to allow the Geologists to interpret the various Geologic points of interest.\nLunch at Osier\, Colorado is included in the ticket price.\nView and marvel at volcanoes\, unusual rock formations\, multiple volcanic deposits\, tunnels\, and an untouched landscape.\nA mile by mile Geologic rail log will be provided to each participant.\n\nInformation and tickets.

DESCRIPTION:Taos Ski Valley Trail Work Day: William’s Lake Trail Maintenance \n9:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nMeet at: Phoenix Grill\, 100 Kachina Rd\, Taos Ski Valley\, NM 87525\, USA \nJoin TSVI and ECTA for a trail maintenance day on the Williams Lake trail. This work day is open to the public and anyone and everyone are warmly invited to join! \nDetails:\nWhen: Sunday\, September 7th 9 AM – 4 PM\nWhere: Meet at the parking lot behind the Phoenix Grill (36.576427\, -105.438442) \nWhat to Expect: A day filled with fun and trail maintenance on one of the Carson National Forest’s most popular trails! Work will mostly consist of rehabbing and revegetating social trails and heavily used areas off of the trail. We may also work on improving drainage if there’s time. \nThe trail starts at about 9\,000′ and steadily climbs for 2 miles until reaching Williams Lake. We’ll be hiking about 4 miles roundtrip. \nWhat to Bring: Please wear long pants\, sturdy hiking shoes/work boots\, work gloves\, and eye protection (sunglasses okay). Bring a day pack with plenty of food and water\, sunscreen\, layers\, and rain gear. *We will be on the trail all day and not returning to the cars for lunch* \nECTA will provide the hard hats and tools. \nWe hope to see you there!
